WiFi Weather WordClock
An internet-connected WordClock with 256 full color LEDs which spell out the current time, weather conditions and weather forecast in words and icons. Local weather data is downloaded from wunderground.com every fifteen minutes, ensuring up-to-the minute weather data and time accuracy. In case of impending rain or snow, there's a flashing umbrella on the board (and a remote display as well) as well as scrolling text.
A single chip runs it all: an ESP8266 in the form of a Nodemcu v1.0 board. The display is comprised of 256 addressable WS8212 "Neopixel" LEDs in 8 rows of 32, and each word group slowly fades through all the colors. The face is birch plywood, laser cut and steam bent into a curve, then finished with tung oil. (Yes, some of the characters have dropped out and need to be fixed.) The entire clock is about 1/4" thick and is supported by an acrylic stand..
